Shared storage planning for grid infrastructure

There are three ways of storing Grid infrastructure files:

  • A supported Cluster File System (CFS)
  • A certified Network File System (NFS)
  • Automatic Storage Management (ASM)

Sizing Shared Storage
Minimum sizing for Oracle Clusterware configuration files using External,
Normal, or High redundancy:

Redudancy Minimum of disk OCR Files Voting disk Files Total
External 1 280 MB 280 MB 560 Mb
Normal 3 560 MB 840 MB 1,4 Gb
High 5 840 MB 1,4 Gb 2,3 Gb

Managing Voting Disks in ASM

  • Each node must be able to access a majority of voting disks;
otherwise, it will be evicted from the cluster.
  • Voting disks can be stored on an ASM disk group.
  • The number of voting disks is determined by the ASM disk group
    redundancy setting.
    1. 1 for external redundancy disk group
    2. 3 for normal redundancy disk group
    3. 5 for high redundancy disk group
  • A separate failure group is required for each voting disk.
  • Voting disks are managed using the ‘crsctl’ utility.
