SQL DEVELOPER 4: NEW FEATURES FOR DBAS

The new Oracle SQL Developer 4.0 (released on december 2013) has some great new features for DBAs, as it becomes the main administration platform instead of Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control for Oracle Database 12c.
OEM Database Control is actually disappeared in Oracle Database 12c, because it is substituted by:
– Oracle Enterprise Manager Express, web-based basic administration tool completely integrated into the DB
– Oracle SQL Developer 4.0, java client full administration tool, automatically installed in any Oracle client and server installation
Oracle SQL Developer 4.0 has a new DBA tab (Menu View -> DBA) from which you can fully administer any Oracle Database (even below 12c version):
– Database configuration (database parameters and properties, undo management)
– Database status
– Database backup and recovery with RMAN jobs
– Data Pump export and import
– Storage configuration and monitoring (controlfile, logfiles, datafiles, tablespaces, …)
– Scheduler jobs administration
– Resource Manager plans administration
– Security administration (users, profiles, roles, privileges)
If you also purchased Oracle Tuning and Diagnostic Packs, you can also manage snapshots and baselines for ADDM, AWR and ASH tools.
In particular you can easily create and save HTML reports for further analysis:
– Go to “Performance -> ASH Report Viewer” to generate ASH reports
– Go to “Performance -> AWR -> AWR Report Viewer” to generate AWR reports
– Go to “Performance -> AWR -> SQL Report Viewer” to generate detailed SQL reports
